Hello, does anyone has any examples on an animation showing wire coming out from a crane boom and lifting a block from the ground up, rotating the crane boom to another location and lowering the block down?
Thanks in advance
Do you need or looking for something like this
That would be very difficult to do within SolidWorks. However, if you're willing to put in plenty of hours, I believe it can be done.
I did something similar a couple of years ago for Tommy Gate. If you look on this page of Tommy Gate's web site, click on the upper-right animation called "Original Series Liftgate". After the gate is lowered, the cables spool out to lower (and then raise) the gate. There were some hacks used to get this to work, which involved shorter segments of concentric cable pieces being quickly shown or hidden (already mated in place) in the assembly as the animation progressed. But you cannot actually see whether the cable is moving as a single piece or working as I mentioned above--so in this case, it works well for the animation. So as long as you don't need to see the cable itself moving (and it's probably too small in your animation to truly discern this) you should be OK with my method.
The cable wrapping around the pulley is a single piece--looks like a candy cane. And the part that attaches to the load is a single piece. What changes are the pieces in the middle during raising/lowering. You have them all in place in the assembly, and as the load is lowered, you show more of the segments. As it is raised you hide them (or they'll poke through the pulley or load). The top pulley piece and lower load attachment piece are concentric to one another, so as the load moves, each piece tracks properly.
With some careful planning, you can probably get this to work with the crane, since the same principles apply.
It actually shouldn't be that bad. You just have to set up assembly contraints (sketch with sweep feature in part file for the wire) to the wire so that it will update correctly when the load is lifted and lowered. I did something similar with a drop test in this small animation, I just didn't care about the opposite side moving.
Hi Don thanks for the reply. Do you have the SolidWorks sample that you can share with me so that I can study how it can be done?
I believe that using in-context, path mate and few more features/options this might be do able. Do you have any files one can try on.
Hi Deepak, I managed to use incontext to create the wire but I am having trouble creating the animation of the wire extending downwards after the boom is rotated up and extended. Do you have any clue on how to do it?
I have attached the assembly files for your reference.
Thanks in advance.
James is good to know you have managed the intial step. I can't open the files right now but make sure you have included all the required part files also. I'll have a look at the files.
Hi Deepak, yes that is what I am looking for. Do you mind sharing the SolidWorks files with animation so that I can study how it is done?
Thanks alot for your support!
Hi Deepak, I hope you can share with me the SolidWorks files with animation so that I can study how you create the animation. Thanks alot!
