We have some unusual length fasteners that have been custom made by our fastener supplier. for example in the AS standard, M12 x 75mm long, which are not present in the standards on the toolbox. Is it possible to add custom length fasteners into the toolbox? I know it's not ideal to have lengths outside the norms, but we have a large amount of historical designs that I have to deal with.
You cannot add to the out of the box Toolbox standards, but you can copy one of the standards and add additional sizes to your copied standard.
Excellent. Thanks. We're setting all our oddball sizes in these 'Modified' standards folders. It looks like it will work fine. Just one note on deleting configurations. We had a problem where we added custom properties for material type into the toolbox. Unfortunately we used a '/' in the suffix which was applied to the configuration name. It basically corrupted the database, meaning every time we added a fastener with this config suffix into an assy, it would crash SW. There is an easy way to delete configs, however it isn't published or displayed/labeled well. Once you add a fastener to an assy, a dialog box for it's properties appears. At the top of the dialog box it has an 'add/update button and a delete button directly underneath the word 'favorites'. These buttons have nothing to do with favorites (I think), but they do allow you to add/delete configs, which allowed us to delete the corrupted configs, without having to rebuild the entire database which would have taken days. Perhaps removing the word Favorites would help.
You can edit the swbrowser.mdb file to add a custom length without having to copy a standard. Note that this is not supported by Solidworks. Before doing this make a copy of the file first.
