Moving a weldment part for detailing

Hello all,

I am working on a project that a customer has modeled and wants it detailed. He has a square tube frame weldment that basically looks like a pyramid with tubes going in many different directions. With that said there are crazy mitered joints on both ends of all 58 tubes. I have safe each one out from the cut list and assigned each one a number and now it is time to detail them.

My question is because of all of the angles and it was done as a weldment, as I bring each piece into my drawing they are at the view they were drawn in witch won't work.

Here is my question, How do I rotate the part so when I bring the square tube into a drawing the top will be the top, the front the front and so on?

I believe you can do it by right-clicking on the part in your drawing and going to Drawing Views > Relative View.

And if you need to create an exploded view of the welment, simplu use move/copy body option and place the bodies as required.

Another method is to save a view in the part and use that in the drawing.

Look up "Named Views" in the help file.

Well now all the detailing is done, yee-ha! However the customer has sent me a revised model with a few changes.

1- The thickness has change on the tubing, and because at the detail level it is now a stock part or dumb solid as some would say, but at the weldment level they are structural members and can easily be changed, what do I to change it at the detail level, my customer wants it right if someone was to verify the tube thickness from the drawing. Do I have to start all over?

2- They have also added a few the things to the model that now does not match my finished top level model, do I have to start it over too?

Dan:

From the SW tutorials under Weldments.
1. Select the drawing view.
2. In the drawing document, click Relative View (Drawing toolbar). The part document opens.
3. In the PropertyManager, under Scope: Select Selected Bodies
4. In Bodies for creating view, pick the cross member in the graphics area.
5. In the PropertyManager, under Orientation:
6. Select Front in First, then select the face shown for Front.
7. Select Bottom in Second, then select the face shown for Bottom.
8. This selects the rectangular cross member and defines the front and bottom orientations of the drawing view.
