Why does my solidworks hang/stall when i insert a DWG or DXF file.
I have to shutdown because of the stall.
I would like to know what the cause of the problem could be?

The import still stalls my soildworks. could it be a problem with my operating system?
even after creating ne dxf/dwg the problem still persists
A.D.D. moment here… I usually go into the DWG/DXF and relocate the origin (move everything relative to 0,0,0) to the place I want it to be in SolidWorks. Come to think of it, your origin may be so far away that the drawing is too big for SolidWorks. Also, when you say import do you mean that you do a File>open and then change the file type?
David,
Shamal has posted this error on my behalf.
I have tried 2 ways to bring in a dxf file.
1. File - open - and then change the file type
2. Start a new sketch on the front plane by going: Insert > Dxf/dwg and choosing file.
Most of our old drawings are located at center 0, 0.
After you select the dxf file, the popup screen appears for you to select the options you require. This is the point where solidworks stalls. You cannot select any of the options.
I have found the cause of the problem. The service pack seems to be the culprit. I have uninstalled Solidworks completely and reinstalled Solidworks 2010 Sp0 and every thing works fine. However, the dxf problem comes back the moment I install any of the service packs. Anyone has an idea why a service pack would cause such a problem?
your dxf may be too large. can you take small pieces (individual views) and import them one at a time?
