Parts lost only assembly recovered-please help

I lost my hard drive and could only recover the assembly file and cannot open the assembly due to the fact that all the other parts is "missing". I can open this assembly file in E-drawings showing all the detail of the model. So it seems to me that the assembly file has more detail in it as just a jpg picture of the assembly. All that I need is a parasolid file or any other format of this assembly file so that I can import it again in solidworks and perform a simulation study on it. I don't need any "intelligence" anymore on the geometry. Is there any way that I can get such a file from the assembly file.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news on a Monday but if you cannot recover the part files then you are out of luck and will not see anything when you open the assembly. The ability to view the assembly in edrawings is due to the XML graphic data that is stored in the assembly, it has no correlation to the issue of the missing part files. When you open the assembly it most likely will give you an error message saying it cannot locate the files and give you a choice to locate them or ignore them. Then it will open up blank and all your components will be suppresed.

Depending on how much the files are worth to you, all may not be lost for recovering the data from your hard drive.

I used them last year to recover data from a hard drive that I had go bad. They are not cheap. However, if your data is mission critical they may be able to save the day.

Just chalk up the expense to a very expensive lesson on why one needs to religiously keep their data backed up.

On Track is another recovery system that we have used with very good results, again, not cheap but if the parts are very important, mission critical as Anna stated, then it is well worth the cost.

eDrawing can save as STL, which is not the greatest for re-importing to SW, but may be better than nothing.

Thank you very much. We have send the drive to a recovery lab and they could not retrieve the data. I have save it as a STL file and import it into SolidWorks. I can see it now in SW part but cannot do anything with it. All that I can do now is to use it as "picture" inside SolidWorks, which can help a little bit.
