I have installed Office 2010 and I can no longer create or edit design tables. I get no error message; just no response when I attempt to do either. I tried the repair tool on office, with no change. Any insight?
none? Tried repairing SW since my last post. Then had to deal with the "This version not commissioned properly" error and had to uninstall and reainstall. Turned of AVG resident shield for the reinstall. Still has the problem with not being able to create or edit design tables. Also has a toolbox database problem that started when I upgraeded to 2010sp4.0.
I've the same problem nothing happens related to excel 2010. I'm using SW 2010 sp4.0

The issue appears to have gone away after I upgraded from the trial version of Office 2010 to the Home & Office version.
Your post was very insightful. I just installed SW on a new laptop computer which had Office Starter 2010. Excel Starter 2010 should be all that is necessary for SW, but thanks to you I now know what to look for next design table.
I have a new HP box and had the same issue. We discovered that if you have the HP Protect Tools enabled it will cause Solidworks and Excel to crash when creating design tables or Excel based bills of materials.
We uninstalled HP Protect Tools and everything works fine now.
Finally figured out the solution to this after much frustration.
1. Don't try and uninstall HP Protect Tools.
2. Do uninstall "Privacy Manager for HP Protect Tools". This is the component of Protect Tools that interfaces with Excel via a COM add-in and seems to be the cause of the problem when editing design tables in SW.
