I'm trying to set up a BOM template. I get it dialed in, column widths, row heights... everything locked.
I save it, insert into a drawing and the columns get creative in their sizing (large).
What's going on?
I'm not 100% sure this is the cause of your problem, but go to Tools > Options > Document Properties > Tables and select Use template settings.
I already have that checked. - still coming in wrong
Surely there must be a way or the whole idea of BOM templates in SW would be of no use.
Don't fail to underestimate the SW way.
I have been using SW for quite a while, and this has been an ongoing issue.
Sometimes it works (Coulmn Widths stay as defined and saved) and sometimes it doesnt.
It is enough to drive one to distraction.
It would seem to be a basic thing, something you would expect to be incorperated and fully functioning.
If you open a ER or SPR or whatever acronym SW has for upgrade request, be sure to post it. I would be happy to ditto the request.
I would also appreciate the answer to this issue. I too have "Use Template Settings" checked but when I insert my BOM the cell widths unlock and sometimes scale to an unspecified size. Very frustrating!
This has happened to me for years. Have you checked the knowledge base for and spr's that
might have been submitted? If you don't find one maybe it is time one does get submitted.
I currently use a template for my BOMs and they do not adjust in width but in height which I will go back and adjust. I have attached an image of what might be some important settings so try them and let me know. Still using 2010?
Doesn't the fit text in the column change the text characteristics like the height?
I use the formatting column width all the time. Same for the row height.
Fit text will change the width and height of your text to fit to the desired cell size. I would not recommend using it at all as the text will not look the same depending on how much text is there.
Ever since I set up my BOM template I have not had any issues with the column width only the row height which I adjust manually by using a shift select on each row. A shift select will not do a normal "Windows" shift select. The shift select will allow you to change multiple out of sequence rows to the same settings. Should work the same for the columns but like I said I haven't had any issues with the column widths changing.
As a rule I don't use the fit text. I have my bom templates set up as well.
But on occation I will get the odd excessive text that will grow the cell.
Mine grow all the time depending on the description. My initial height is .25 with 14 pt font, two lines of text I go to .45 and three lines .65, etc. I have never had more than maybe four lines of text. I use descriptions of Mil-spec h/w as they are in the mil-spec so they can get pretty lengthy.
