Why is it that I can only see cosmetic threads when my drg view is either shaded or shaded with edges.
It should be more like Inventor i.e. when a cosmetic thread is added it is show in any type of view unless hidden.
Your question is a good one. I've noticed that Toolbox allows a schematic view.
Does Toolbox have someting you might be able to use or modify for use?
I would never like to have my threads shown as cosmetic other than in shaded or shaded with edges view mode. In other view view mode it shows as dotted line which is perfect I believe.
Could you explain more about your lines being dotted in other views.
In my other views there are no dotted lines just a plain bar,
Attached is a PDF drg of a simple Threaded bar in shaded view with edges you can see threads.
In view show hidden lines there is no dotted lines for the threads.
Do I need to check a setting to get threads to show in views other than shaded.
Mark, what may be happening is that the core diameter of the thread you have modelled is so close to the OD that the line is not showing (the two lines are too close together). When you model a thread, either use a standard thread or ensure that the diameter you enter is the correct core diameter. Incidentally, the lines will show solid, not dotted for a thread. I just did a test and was able to put a thread on a 6mm rod with a 5.9mm core. Of course, the line did not show.
Stuart, you just pointed the same thing I was about to. What again I'm not sure if this can be the case because Mark hasn't mentioned if it is a file specific so I left that reason.
Make sure you have Cosmetic Thread Display set to show.
RMB on the Annotation folder in Drawing feature manager/tree and select Details. In the Annotation properties, select Cosmetic Thread
Under Tool > Options > Document Properties > Detailing, select Cosmetic Thread.
Once you set this option, you should see the thread lines (as per the line font/style in your template)
All these settings are set.
I think I might not have explained correctly what I wanted to see.
I wanted to see the threads going round bar vertically, not thread dia horizontally.
If i draw a bar with threads this show up in drawing. Why not when using cosmetic threads.
In Inventor when using the function similar to cosmetic threads these show.
See PDF, i want to see cosmetic threads as in top view.
You can't have this with cosmetic threads. You'll have to model them using sweep which is generally not recommended. Shaded Cosmetic threads are for appearance/aesthetic only.
Yes using for example a bolt from Toolbox will give me what I want to see on a drg.
However you are tied to what's available in the Toolbox.
It would be nice if using Cosmetic Threads gave you the same results as Schematic.
I am sure this was the case in Inventor.
Anyway see if it gets added to the next release.
Here is a thread run out method that you might want to use in future.
There was nothing attached to your last post.
