Solid Bodies to a Cutlist or BOM

I am new to Solidworks so bear with me. I did the structural design posted at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeHQRby2Yr0

When you are finished, you have a Solid bodies list. I would think using the Structural Steel tool, that it would put the info into a cut list instead of a Solid Bodies list.

Is there a way to generate a Cut List or BOM from the Solid Bodies list or you have to manualy have to make it? If you manualy have to make it, I would think using lines than the Weldment tool would be a quicker way.

No access to youtube but I'm thinking you can open the weldment toolbar and hit the weldment button to convert to a weldment. Then right click on the cut list in the feature manager and choose 'update'. Now create a drawing view. In the drawing view right click and choose tables, insert cut list.

  I just tried that. It changed the Solid Bodies List into a cutlist with the part under the cut item. All it gives me is the material type. No decription is listed on the drawing list or in the cut list.

    Right click the folder containing the solid bodies. Choose properties. Create a property called "Description". Enter a value. It will now populate the cut list table.

      So it looks like you have to do a manual cutlist.

        An alternate method is to right click the solid bodies folder and choose 'save bodies'. I'd rename the solid bodies first though. Then hit the auto assign button. Next hit the Browse button to create an assembly. The components that are dumped into the assembly will not carry features. They will be derived components that are associative to the original part file that contains the solid bodies. The new assembly is open in the background window. You can now tab to it.
