So I just installed MS Office 2010 Home and Small buisness Suite today on my new machine and now I can't use my sheet metal tables anymore. I get the error
"Your system must have Microsoft Excel Version 8.0 or higher for this operation"

I am surprised you did not do considerable testing with all your new workstations first before deploying them to your engineering group. Since you always have challenges with SolidWorks and design tables. I would have thought this issue would have showed itself in testing.
Or you did and the test rig worked with the software configuration you wanted and now the others are not working.
Bummer.... It is annoying how Microsoft Office always seems to fight the other software when Microsoft introduces a new version of Office. It always seems to cause major issues for all the downstream people. Both software developers and end users alike.

The real situation is that Microsoft Office 2010 works perfectly inside Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits and that SW 2010 works Ok on that environment (we tested intensively) and we do not gent any problems. However, we have over 200 models (large Top-Down assemblies) build with SW 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 which use a very large Design Table, which pass the test but now do not work with SW 2010. After doing intensive testing we found the following:
Apparently, when SolidWorks transfer those models to SW 2010, some of the structure and features (the way they are build back in 2006 and 2007) inside the files is not translated correctly and produce errors that sometimes (depending on what we are changing in the model) produce an error that make SW abort the process of closing the Design Table and automatically rebuild the model. The result is a corrupted assembly where the Design Table is not accessible (in fact is no more inside the model leaving an empty object and unlinking all variables that where driven by the DT. Simultaneously, SW get into many other problems such as been unable to initialize Visual Basic and therefore loosing all the equations and macros, and some other funny things... additionally, when you close the assembly and close SW, you found that Solidworks.exe continue as an active process, forcing to reboot the computer to be able to continue working...
We undersatand that Microsoft Office 2010 (and Windows 7) have many changes that turn upside down every interface and process... but that is no excuse for SW not able to properly handle his how files created with previous versions (Microsoft Office have no problem loading and converting files done with Office 2003 or even older versions).
Also SW produce some other crazy errors such as all mates using a face and a plane get on error indicating that the face used by the mate is "missing" when in fact the face still there.
Therefore, we firmly believe that the problem is not caused by Office 2010, but by SW which at sp 4.0 of a version (SW 2010) have portions of code that will not achieve the status of "prototype" by my standards (and that is not even the level of "BETA"). How it is possible to release version 2011 when 2010 do not properly work with files from previous versions (which worked perfectly on 2009 sp 5.1).
Want to see something (not critical) that show the quality of programing done by whoever write the code... open "equations" and then open "edit all equations", then make that window larger (required to see large equations) and close the window. After that open it again and you will see that it will not open to the size of the window frame unless you move the corner to the frame, that is an error on the code. If that pass QC, figure out what happen with complex functionality...
As mentioned. when we work with new assemblies done from scratch in SW 2010 we have no problems, but as soon as we load a file done in a previous version, all we get is problems....
I hope that I will be able to see a new version that install and work without critical bugs and problems before I retire... in the mean time we will continue suffering any time we upgrade to a new version...
I gest this is why it is call SolidWORK (a literal translation to Spanish mean that "you will be working very hard") :-)

The page that you linked, Anna, speaks about the current release but not the previous one.
I had a look into administration guides and found nothing about this.
Can somebody tell what release of SolidWorks is comptatible with what release of Excel since SW 2007 to the current one ?
For example, in my company we use SW 2008 and I'm asked if we can buy Offfice 2010... I don't know the answer !

I think office 2007 support was added in Solidworks 2008. Given that Office 2010 just shipped, solidworks probably isn't version compatible with it yet. Try saving your bend tables in office 2003 format and see if they work.
That won't work. The second you go to select the gauge table it tells you that you have to have excel installed. So it's not even seeing Excel.
Why you don't get Office 2007 with upgrade to 2010 included, then install 2007 and when SW release information regarding to compatibility to 2010 update to that version. You can buy MS Office 2007 with upgrade to 2010.
If you are on SW 2008... I do not think that will work stable on Windows 7, but you can try...

Our VAR suggested a hotfix from Microsoft and an office repair, but it didn't work. We have uninstalled Solidworks completely and reinstalled it, and we still have the issue.
we are also unable to insert an excel sheet as an OLE object in a drawing.
I see on the System Requirements page that it says "Office 2010 feature 'Click-To-Run' is not supported". I used the Click-to-run install option. Can anyone confirm that a disk install works?
Yes, disk install works. My previous issue was probably caused by something that went wrong on the upgrade from office 2003, and after manually changing a few registry keys, it works as expected.
I know this is an old topic, but I just got this error today, and I also figured out why.
I was trying to use my custom Sheet metal gauge table that I had just used the day before, and I got the same error:
"Your system must have microsoft excel 8.0 or higher for this operation"
Nothing had changed since yesterday.
I figured out it was because I had Excel open and was in the middle of editing a cell. Cancelling the edit in the currently open excel sheet fixed the problem for me.
Thanks for figuring this out Brandon I had the same error message coming up from the gauge table selection, problem solved when excel was closed.
SW 2013 SP4, Microsoft Excel 2010
Microsoft just officially released Office 2010 for retail sale on June 15th.
I would suspect that SW has not fully tested Excel 2010 with SW2010's earlier SP's. The SW system code that checks for what version of Excel you have does not have Excel 2010 added to the list of acceptable Excel versions.
If you are in the Early Visibility release program for SolidWorks load up SW2010 SP4ev and see if Excel 2010 is an acceptable version.
On the SolidWorks System Requirements page, Excel 2010 is NOT listed yet.
