Hello all,
I'm a bioengineering student at the UW and have self-taught myself SolidWorks (it's been fun!). Of course, I'm dirt-poor so I downloaded the free/trial version of SW 2010, so now I am wondering if there is a photoview 360 free/trial version that I can also download.
If not, are there any compatible (unlicensed SW 2009/2010 (I have both)) rendering tools that I can use to make my assemblies pop?

You may be out of luck because the personal learning edition files are not of a format compatible with the comercial version that photoview uses.
But to tell you the truth, renderings aren't usually what lands design jobs. You'll usually do better with prints.
Thanks for the quick reply... I've been looking around and saw something about MODO 401... would that work? In the lab, I used an expired version of Solidworks for most of my work (the lab doesn't want to relicense the product since I'm the only one that uses it!), will those files work?

Couple of options I can think of...
If you get the Student version - I am thinking it comes with Solidworks Premium with has PV360 included.
Another option - download the free version of modo.I think you may have to contact Lux for the version that will load SW files. You can look at my website here for some tutorials on SW and modo.
You can always use Photoworks. It's a lot less intuitive but Rob Rodriguez's site had a lot of great info and you can produce some decent renders from that.

If it's a commercial version of solidworks then regaurdless of how old it is, you should be able to use the files with the current release of pv360 (and maybe moto). I think it only has to be the current version of solidworks to save the changes back to the file or show decals.
If it's an educational version with a limited-time license, then you probably have the same restrictions that you do with the personal learning edit.
Not sure the free trial version will import SW files. I would suggest you contact Luxology and see if they can help you with version with will import SW files.
Also - there are a few of us SW users on the forums over there. My name is 'macwithamac' on the forums there. Look around there is a growing number of resources to help. It ain't super easy to make that transition yet, but we are working on that.
Regarding John's comments about what version of SW will work. I think you might have to have a later version 2008 or later. THe loader for PV360 was written for that I believe - I could be wrong here though.
