Does EPDM use balloon numbers in BOMs anywhere? How about in Item BOM's?
Sure...Items could be used to give you ballon numbers. It would be a manual process, create a variable and simply add the balloon value.
Named BOMs are how people typically use balloon numbers in EPDM.
Another idea is to use stable BOMs in SW and display the SW BOM in EPDM.
I read your blog and got some good tips on this issue, but what if you don't want to put BOMs on assembly drawings? There are good reasons for leaving drawings as purely pictorial documents and having the BOM as a separate document. For one, the ability to add line items that don't represent modeled parts (glue, lengths of wire, etc.). If I use EPDM to generate my BOMs instead of Solidworks, can I still have line (item) numbers in my BOM and also have them show as bullets in my drawings?

I don't think so. Doing this is either manual or would require some API.
