The application keeps crashing after the application is open for a period of time within an 8 hour period, any advice would be helpfull.
A little more information would be nice, crashes doing what.....assembly, part, drawing, feature creation......
And system specs too please............
Hi Chris, Thank-You for replying here is the information you requested:
System is a Dell T5500
Genuine Windows® 7 Ultimate 64-Bit with Downgrade Rights Service to Windows® XP Professional x64 Edition
The crashing is happenning durning drawing.
So how much ram and what type of processor do you actually have currently?
Also, when you say this is happening during drawing, are you saying while you are doing something in 2D detailing or during modeling parts? What are you actually doing when SolidWorks crashes? Any particular command you are using, etc?
I will find out this information and reply back this morning......
SolidWorks crashes very randomly, I could be in a Drawing, Model or Assembly, it doesn’t matter. It will either crash (close without any warning other than the dialog box saying it has encountered an error), or lock up while performing a command like “save”, then I have to go to the Task Manager to close. It can be early morning when I first start up, or afternoon. It will also pop up a dialog box that says “I’m out of memory” when I’m performing a “hole wizard” commanded, but this usually happens only after I’ve been working for awhile. This used to happen from time to time when we had 2009 and this problem seamed to go away for awhile when we updated to 2010, but now it’s back. Also, sometimes it will crash upon closing drawings or models.
Thanks, hope this helps
Here’s the info about your computer:
Go to My Computer, and right click on it. Find "Manage" and select that.
Then to to System Tools>Event Viewer>Application, and see if there are any errors that are occuring when SolidWorks is crashing. Check and make sure your RAM is pushed into the slots all the way. Make sure your video card fan is running.
If you ran Windows 7, you would get better responses from the OS when software or hardware crashes, it will actually bring up the cause of the error (sometimes) in a notification window.
Charles, thanks for share that tip, I had similar issues of "crashing SW" on different PC specs/plataforms and also since SW2008 / 2009 or even 2010 in random situations. Sometimes mating a spline end point to a vertex, on a drawing dimension extension line been drag, or an assembly similar mate operation related to a point or edge, etc ...
Now lets see how the newer SW 2011 Beta will perform ?
So, we discuss the Beta Later on the prorper location at forum.
As I mentioned on my last post it happens in many other hardware configurations also with different SW versions or SP's.
My experience since SW 1997 tells me that some hardware adjustments and software setups have to be made. Seems vague, but
that is a SolidWorks Software issue that can be minimize as you proceed specific trouble shoot on a specific set up, etc...
Many factors will determine the probability on that "Crash".
Hope someone at Solidworks Software Development do Investigate the and minimize this chances on "failure/abort" by 2011.
This is a #1 enhancement request every year i guess, "higher stability" is the goal.
Mike, Good Luck on that matter. I am also investigating the issue.
