I have a part on which I want to give different appearances... I have a pattern (say a series of circles). The inside of the circle I want to have different reflection, specularity, etc, than the outside of the circles.
This is the Genreal idea... I want to get this effect.
Sometimes you can cheat by using decals. A few things to look at:
Some limitatons are that decals don't "tile" like normal textures - they are a fixed size, so you may have to create a larger, "tiled" image in PhotoShop or whatever to make sure it fits over your whole mode Also, your mapping choices are limited to labe, spherical, cylindrical, and projection. If I can find some examples I'll post them.
Although there might be some clever way to do it, I don't think this can be done currently in PW or PV360 (have specularity be it's own layer). It is certainly very doable in Modo or other CGI software.
