I'm just wondering how other people are handling components in an assembly that are "kitted" for shipping? This is going to be one of those "some assembly required" things and we haven't done much of that before.
Any suggestions on what to do here?
Typically with a note. The assembly model and drawing will show the components in place. The note appears on the drawing along the lines of:
5. ITEMS 3, 6, AND 8 ARE TO BE KITTED FOR USE IN NEXT ASSEMBLY.
Are you giving that kit an individual part number in your ERP system?
I'm not sure what if any difference that will make.
If in fact you do have a kit number, then those items should be a subassy and would show up in the BOM as one item with the kit number, which may or may not be what you want.
