Admin Image on Network File Servers

Anyone have experience using a file server to store Admin Images? I have my file server mapped as a logical drive on my workstation and am able to create the image using my workstation (WinXP 32 bit) and then use the image to install a client on my machine (we have all networked seats). the problem is that the admin image is at SP2.1 and I want to upgrade the client (only a single test deployment at this point) to SP3.1. I downloaded and created the new Admin Image but now can't change the client to look to the new image and run the update. The admin guide says you have to change the sharing permissions, but this is a company wide file server. I have tried to install it on an engineering only server, but all of our servers are Win2008, 64bit and all of my clients are WinXP 32 bit. Anyone have any ideas?
