My company is looking at having 2 vaults on different servers at different locations.
Is it possible for this setup to behave as if there is only one location? The 2 vaults are being considered to address speed issues with getting information out of the vault. We would really perfer 1 location, but the speed would be too slow for the location that would be accessing the vault from offsite.
How are other poeple dealing with multiple locations using PDM?
Enterprise PDM can do this with replicated vaults, WorkGroup PDM cannot synch together two vaults on separate servers.
Of course, anyone can feel free to dispute this if I am wrong.

If someone felt overly ambitous they could probably create a Windows Service that synced multiple vaults.

Having multiple vaults can be tricky and complicated and is not usually recommended, especially if you want the data to be the same. Something else to be aware of is that each vault needs it's own service to run it, so you can't install 2 services on the same server. Now it sounds like you'll have two different servers, so that won't be the issue, but with PDMW being a "flat file" database (basically a directory structure) and not a SQL database like most PLM systems, having them sync'd is going to be an issue.
Perhaps you should look at the "speed" issue and see if that can be solved, or if it really is an issue, rather than go on gut feel that it's slow. You can do alot in this day and age to connect company sites at higher speeds.

I have shared this info with the IT department.
If you are talking about basically having a copy of the same vault in 2 locations you will face a big problem in trying to maintain file revision maintainance.
