convert surface to SM and flatten?

I have a part I have been struggling with a part for a few days.Think of a square tube bent in a U shape with the bend being made of 3 elipses rather than simple radisus. Now remove the outer face of the tube and replace it with a face that reaches from the center of the bottom flange to the outer edge of the upper flange. I am attempting to create the face as a sheet metal part to be flattened and drawn. I was able to create the part by importing the sketches of the top and bottom edges and breaking the elipses up into several "representative" radisus. when I attempted a solid loft SW was unable to knit the feature. It did create a surface loft readily though. Now to flatten it. I placed a flat section at the center of the bend and am able to pick that as the face to convert to sheet metal. However there are no created bends to flatten. Does anyone have any suggestions?
