Hi all - I am a nubie PDM guy. I am playing with my dummy vault to figure out all the kinks before I go live in PDM.
When I check a file into the vault, it commences to search for stuff for several minutes:
While I am confident it is doing something amazing to make my life better, I don't know what it is and therefore is it worth the delay. Does anyone know what it is, and if not necessary, how do I tell it to stop? Thanks, Bill
do you have search file locations checked?
Yes, I have that checked.
I just unchecked it. It reduced the locations that it is searching by one, but still had a search that took about 30 seconds.
It is checking my SW working local directory, and a directory that I previously used on the network as my shared working directory.
So, I tried a different check box:
By unchecking the Include SW File Location... It only checks the SW Workgroup PDM docs which takes a second.
I am still not sure what it is looking for, but I hope it is nothing important now that I got it to stop, for the most part.
it is searching for files that reference the files you are checking in. so it knows which references to update. whith everything off (like you have it now) it only searches the folder the files you are checking are in - which may be correct, depending on your set-up.

Makes complete sense! Now that I have heard it, that would seem pretty obvious. Thanks for helping! I now know what I need for my situation.
