PhotoWorks is an add-in for SolidWorks for producing "realistic" images of models (rendering with shadows, reflections, indirect illumination, etc.).

If you don't have PhotoWorks, a less impressive (but still neat) option is hardware based. If your video card supports Real View Graphics, SW can use that resource to show materials that you apply to the part. You'll see things that resemble "real" in realtime.

Here are a couple of quick shots of a stainless steel enclosure. The realview looks like that as I model it - spins in 3d space just fine. The PW image took about 20 seconds to render. I just used default settings. With more time and thought, a more realistic image could be generated.
