when was routing component wizard added
A potted history - since you asked! ....
Routing was first developed for piping during 1998/1999.
Tubing was added about 2 years later.
Electrical was released with SP03 of SW2004.
The Component wizard (and other wizards) were added for SW 2006.
I wonder as well when it was added.
I know it was available in the 2009 version so now one is left to wonder how many years it will take for it to be fully documented instead of the handfull of cursory pages in the help file.
thanks so much for the reply and all the info. I teach Advanced Solid Modeling at a local college in the evenings and was thinking this might be a nice pop quiz question. Is there away for you to take a screen shot of the wizard and add it here for me along with the version you are using?
Connie, not to be snide or anything, but why should a student care when these features were added? Wouldn't a better quiz question have to do with how to use some feature? It would seem to me that this history is just another uselss tidbit that students are asked to learn as busy work when something usefull would be better.
the test that covers this part of the class has questions on the written portion that include how to make a connection point, how to make a routing point, what are these terms and how do they function in the routing portion of SolidWorks. The pop quizz questions are for extra points... they dont hurt they only help the student. They know to use this forum and a few other websites to research for possible answers to problems that may occur in the future, its to teach them how to find solutions when they are no longer in a classroom setting and can be easily given answers. If you have any further ideas and comments I am open to suggestions.
Ok, that sounds better. I agree that students need to learn how to find help after school and I guess searching for posts by their teacher can help find extra points . I just remember the strange stuff we were asked to regurgatate in school and how little of it I have ever considered using in the 12 years since graduating.
Which school teaches routing? Is it an online course?
I teach a class on Advanced Solid Modeling and I cover some of the advanced topics of SolidWorks as well as touch on Inventor and 3D AutoCad basics. No at this time it is not an online course sorry. If you are needing some learning material on routing other than going to classes held by VAR's there is the routing tutorial in SolidWorks.
That sounds great, The wizard as it stands in 2010 looks exactly the same as the first release - except a few bits added along the way. The new version is totally different for 2011....
It shows a tad small here s I have atached the original image.
As you can see - the range of components has been greatly extended.
Feel free to ask or email if you want any more info, I'd be very happy to help.
