Is it just me, or is SW2010 much slower at inserting parts? Even in a very small assembly with simple parts, I click Insert Component, then Browse, then choose my part - that is all OK, but it then takes several seconds before it appears in the assembly, and then takes several more seconds to fix after I click where I want it to go.
This would be no big deal for one part, but if I want to pin it and place ten screws in an assembly, each one takes several seconds and the whole thing becomes painful.
SW always used to have little noticeable lag. What has changed?
There have been quite a few posts about issues like these recently. Here are some common culprits:
Windows Desktop Search can muddying everything up. If you don't ever use SolidWorks Search or WDS, turn it off. Start>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services. Scroll to "Windows Search", right click to "Properties", and then set startup type to "Disabled". Also Press the Stop Button. Now Right-click on the WDS icon in your system tray, and tell it to close.
Is your harddrive full? When is the last time you defraged your harddrive? If you have less than 15GB or 15% free, it's time to clean out the junk and run defrag.
How much RAM do you have?
Where are your files stored that you are dropping into the assembly, are they on the network? If they are, try copying some over to your local computer first, then insert them. See if it makes a difference.
Did you used to have lightweight turned on? Do you still have it turned on?
