The length of the CM area and thus the toolbar available area is determined by the length of the longest set of buttons on the tabs. So if it looks like you have unusable space, see if another tab set is longer. You might fins that you can delete something there to shorten that longest one.

There are a couple of other options:
1. Right-click on the CommandManager and uncheck "Use Large Buttons with Text"
This will make the CommandManager show only icons and the height is much reduced.
2. You could undock the CommandManager by dragging out one of the CommandManager tabs. The undocked window can be positioned anywhere (for eg. on a second monitor), can be made to auto-hide and is also resizeable.

Seetharam,
I like the first tip, unchecking "Use Large Buttons with Text".
What exactly do you mean by dragging out one of the CommandManager Tabs?
Cause I'm dragging tabs with the left mouse key, the right mouse key and the middle mouse key and nothing is dragging.
I even tried dragging icons in case that's what you meant. No dice.
Tony, depending on your installed version of SW, you may need to unlock the command manager and the toolbars. And then you can select and drag any of the tab to drag the command manager. Check attached video if that helps.

As soon as I read the word unlock in your reply I said to myself "Of Course! I have the command manager locked".
Thanks for saving me from myself Deepak Gupta!
How about customizing Command Manager and add/remove icons
