If I add a part to an assembly, the BOM does not update with the new part, is this normal?
To have it show the part I have to delete the current BOM and start a new one, losing all the editing I have made to it.
Is there a way around that? Ctrl-Q would not update it.

This has been an issue for some time now bom will not update if you even change the part number or description with out deleting bom and reinstalling it.
We've also been having problems with the dreaded BOM.
It's very specific when with it's references. If your part properties doesn't reference properly to the cell in the bill of material you'll struggle for hours.
We spend a lot of time customizing our part, drawing, part assembly and part assembly drawing templates before we got the symmetry right. And even then we still had problems like certain parts automatically not showing in the BOM when it shouldn't be.
In short I don't have a straight answer. Except if you could include only certain parts in your assembly and share it with us so we could see how we can help.

I have been seeing that on ocassions with SW-2010. Never happened before. I have changed property values in the parts and I have to reinsert the BOM to get it to change.
