When I "Insert Components -> New Part" into an assembly for in-context modelling, the part switches to IPS units. The assembly is in metric, all parts created and inserted as individuals are metric, the default for Solidworks is set to metric.
Any idea why this is happening and how to fix it? Really bizarre and frustrating.

Correct Answer
When a part has different units than an assembly, and the part is edited in the context of the assembly, it will display mixed units. The probable explanation for this is that the part was made from an ips template, and it is probably using default templates rather than a template you customized. Check the templates listed in Tools, Options, Default Templates for units, fix the units, then save the template, or you might consider redirecting the Default Template setting to a template you have already customized.
