I'm going to guess you're using Citrix or some terminal
emulation to connect to the server. IMO, you should refrain at all
cost from working under this scenario. You can throw a mountain of
cash into a new server with the best components money can buy but
in the end it's the emulation software that will constantly slow
things down. Pushing all the graphics will cause your network to
take a hit as well. I would strongly looking at re-evaluating your
current environment and start working locally. You've already
proven it's more efficient to work locally vs. on the
server....that in and of itself should tell you something.
