I'm learning how to use the Bill of Materials feature. No matter what I do, I can't get the material to show up in the Bill of Materials. I'm using the bom-material template. I've given the different peices materials, but the material cells are blank on the BoM.

I believe it's the default "bom-materials" template that comes with SolidWorks. How do check the BOM template to see if it's properly linked?

Excellent! That was the problem. Is there a way to get that to automatically update on parts when I define a material for them, or do I have to manually add it every time?

Yes, you can set your part templates accordingly so that when you create a new part and add material, it'll automatically get populated in file properties.
For you older parts, you can use a simple macro to update the file properties (will explain you more on this with pictures and macro links tomorrow when I get in front of SolidWorks)
Please continue this thread. You were about to discuss a simple Macro which would update the file properties of old components on mass.
Also - can material be edited from the BOM in an assembly and update the material properties of the part?
