A question about mass participation factor. We have a structure that needs to be analyzed. We have a random vibration curve (PSD). The prescribed curve goes up to a maximum of 500 Hz.
In solidworks a modal analysis is run up the range of 500Hz. Mass participation does not reach the 80% rule of thumb for a modal analysis. We then perform a random vibration analysis to determine the induced RMS stress values. Now here is the question/statement. I don't believe we need to run the modal analysis up into the 2000 Hz or so range to get more mass participation. Does the accuracy of the solution change any if you don't go up to 80%? I don't think so. Thoughts questions comments welcome.
