I was wondering if it was possible to import a solidworks animation into modo 401 to render it? Or is it necessary to make the animation in modo....
You can import the SW file but the animation info will not transfer. You'd have to recreate the animation using modo tools.
You might be able to use a collada file? You can find a collada exporter at SW labs. This would transfer the animation information. I've heard this doesn't work all that well so it may not be an acceptable solution?
Rob is right. I do all my animation work in modo as it is a very capable tool for this. However, you will have to 'rig' your SW files/parts in modo. In order to do this, there currently is a fairly extensive process that I have detailed a while back here. It is soon to be outdated by the upcoming SW to modo transition tools.
modo currently has a collada import function and SW currently has a collada export function. Unfortunately, the two don't communicate quite yet. However, from what I heard at this years Solidworks world, this will most likely be the vehicle to take your animation work from sw into modo.
One other thought, in the future, SW 2011 might just take care of your animation needs using PV360 render engine.
How did you get the solidworks 2011 part file into modo 401 in the first place? Did you save as a certain file type?
I can't seem to get it to work?
Hope thet you can help?
In modo File/Open you can choose a native SW file to open. This only works in 32 bit modo for 401.
