Is there a way to purge parts from your current SW session?

I have an assembly where I have a part with a given filename of say "X".  I realise that part X is not what I want and I want to replace this part but reuse the filename.

If I simply delete this part from the assembly, create a new part and try and save this new part as "X" I get the error "This file is in use......" even though it is not in my current assembly.

In my ProE days you had to purge the item from your current workspace (I think that is the right term, been a few years).

My only work around so far is to shut down SW and reopen the assy.  Not something I want to keep doing due to the time it takes to reopen my assy.

For those how are aksing, why doing I just delete the features in the original part X and start again, part X has been created from a template predefined part eg different steel profiles.

Thanks in advance.
