If working in assembly mode and you accidentally create a sketch in assembly mode (within the assembly) instead of within the part can you move it to the part? The sketch was created to and has relations to the part. I've tried the cut and paste routine but the sketch isn't located right. What am I missing?
Thanks, Mark
"Instead of actually creating a sketch, just convert the desired sketch from the assy."
How do I do that?
My suggestion is to just copy and paste.
Using the "Modify Sketch" tool you will find that it is easy to move around a sketch after it is copied. You can see full instructions on how to use modify sketch in the last posting in this thread: https://forum.solidworks.com/message/126894#126894
I do this from one assembly to another, and I am not successful. I have to delete all the danglin dims and relations and re-relation and re dimention everything. I do wish there was an easer way because I will start a project with a sketch and start working my way into it and realize that the sketch and or sketches need to be els where so I have to re-create them. OH well untill there is a fix for all.
If this is still relevant for you, I think you may want to contact your reseller and have them add you to the following enhancement. I'm not precisely sure that this would cover exactly what you want to do.
Have the ability to drag and drop (move) a sketch from an assembly into a component (part or sub assembly)
