I have a sub assembly with a custom property displaying the volume in cubic yards. Is it possible to import that property into the design table of the top level assembly?
Currently using sw 2010.
There is no way to do that as far as I know. You can enter the Volume of a subassembly in the custom properties, but the next time you edit the CP's SW updates it to the current assembly. And that doesn't get it into the DT.
See below (the first is referencing the sub-assembly, the 2nd after going back into Custom Prop dialog):
One possibility would be to use a linked DT, maybe it could reference the DT of the subassembly...
Another potential wrinkle (and this comes into play if you do any design automation), how does that reference update if you were to swap -A015.sldasm out of the assembly for a different component? While it's entirely possible that the "replace component" command works as a "find and replace" kind of feature, I'm not sure exactly how deep into the file that command goes, so I have no idea if it would replace the text in your property.
I kind of doubt that it would.
