Is it possible to unfold this part as to start from a sheet metal blank?
It is a thickened surface with a couple cuts.
This will require an add-in for blank development. This is a non-gaussian surface where the metal is deformed or drawn in multiple directions. SolidWorks will flatten sheet metal parts with simple wipes and bends that can be formed in equipment such as brake presses.
Programs such as Logopress3 and BlankWorks can do this type of blank development.
I am aware that a cone shaped body will be easier to cut and roll. If cone shaped, is it any way I can flatten it in SW? Thanks.
Check out the Lofted Bend function
