I have a 30 seat SNL that gets deployed to 3 different sites. I've used the Option Editor in the past, but I don't like it cause you have to know the machine name to create the settings.
So, I was going to try the opt file with the License Manager. This will take some time to create so I was wondering what other folks are using?
The main reason I want to use the opt file is the timeout feature. I have a few users that will check out a premium license just because they can...
Rob,
We have a 17 seat SolidNetwork License supporting nearly 100 installs across 3 different sites. We're using the opt file with the license manager. It appears to me that either way you go, you have to maintain the user and group lists so where you do it is a toss up.
I'm not familiar with the timeout feature - we have users who like to "camp" on licenses as well, so I'll be looking into that.
One caveat to keep in mind when using the option file - the username matching is case sensitive. SolidWorks licensing cares - Windows doesn't care. In other words, the case of the username listed in the opt file must match the case of the username logged on to the client. For example:
In the opt file: JDoe.
If the user is logged on to the client as "jdoe" he/she will not be recognized by the opt file and may not be granted the appropriate license.
You'll either need to have additional entries for the user matching all possible case combinations, or do as we did and tell your users to use all one case (upper or lower) when logging on to their computer.
That said, I wouldn't be opposed to using the option editor if it was able to pull user information from AD so I wouldn't have to manually enter it.
