library features for weldments

i am working on a frame assembly that has multiple mounting pads that are teh same size and hole pattern. is it possible to add this pad to the design library? i have tried but seem to do it.

anyone know if this is possible or how to do it?

didn't think to make it as a separate part. i was trying to do it with the feature in the weldment part file. this works great

Tom,

Library Features don't work on MultiBody parts, so in order for this to work you will have to Merge the inserted Library Features into your frame, and the UnMerged manually in order to get an accurate CutList.

When you do it use a derived part.. it will let you move it with the move body feature. If you have the part saved in your design libray it is a simple drag and drop process.

NOTE:
if you want keep your feature tree in good order, make sure you select the "locate part" check box when you first insert the part. If you edit the feature later and select "locate part" and hadn't already done that then the "move body" feature will appear to be attached to your derived part but take place in history when you made the change. It makes for a wacky feature tree if you need to re-arrange things later.

It Imports it as a "SolidBody(s)" you can leave it as a solid body or merge it with another. I have to admit, I have not tired it with a cut list.. but cutlist are based on solidbodies... so it should work fine.

What I meant is:

If the plate, bracket or whatever is imported has properties (Part Number, Description, etc..) how do you reflect those on the cutlist for manufacturing, do you type in that info manually everytime?

it would be great if the properties from an inserted part would populate the cutlist.
i do this type of hybrid weldments all the time.

maybe in a few years time.

I see what you are sayin.. and YES.. for other reasons I really wish the "derived parts" imported custom properties and anotations as well.

It does do it but is very hit and miss. I have an SPR on this.
I found that I could insert a body and the information would come in sometimes and not others, usually if the part was inserted first the information would carry through.

Having an accurate cut list is really important at my company and as Roy, Al, and Adrian have mentioned, we can't count on that with a derived part.
Tom, I would go back to using a library feature part. As Adrian mentioned, they don't let you create a library feature for a multibody part. However, I have a workaround that tricks the system into letting me make one:
As long as you create the library feature when your part is a single body, you can later change the library feature part into a regular unmerged one. (You don't have to do an unmerge for each inserted library feature.)
So when I first create the library feature, on top of my base part and plate with holes, I add a large extrude with "merge" selected to combine it into one body. Now SW lets me create and save the library feature file.
And now I edit the library feature file and erase the merged extrude and I am left with a library feature of a regular non-merged extrude.
