Description Field in Save As Window

    Adam Meyer

I'm having some issues with the "Description" field in the Save As window.  In our PDM system, we use the variable "Title" in place of "Description" since that is what our drawing title block uses.

When a user enters a title in the description field in the Save As window it creates a custom property called "Title".  When a user enters a title into the data card it creates a configuration specific property called "Title".  The problem comes when the text entered in the Save As window is not the same as the text entered in the data card.  I've instructed user to ignore the Description field in the Save As window, but some people still enter info there.  The drawing pulls all the information from the data card variable (which is what I want), but the part is left with a custom property called "Title"  that doesn't match the data card.

Ideally, I'd like the data card information to overwrite anything entered in the description field in the Save As window.  Is this possible?  If not, how can I get the description field in the Save As window to create a custom property called "Description" not "Title"? At least this way there would be no confusion between the two.

I've attached the "Title" variable settings from EPDM and some screenshots of the custom/config properties being created.

      Thanks,

      Adam

Is it possible to have the users put their title information in the "@" tab? This would make a custom property rather than the configuration specific property as you are getting today.

Thanks Jeff.  I was trying out your suggestion and discovered something unexpected.

With the "@" tab hidden (which I had)  Solidworks will create a custom property for the description field in the Save As window and a config. specific property for the title on the data card.  If you show the "@" tab after the part has been saved you will see the two different properties (one in the @ tab and one in the config tab).

With the "@" tab shown, Solidworks will initially create a custom property for the description field in the Save As windows, but it will be overwritten when something is entered in the data card.  This is exactly what I wanted!
