Its just so you can dynamically rotate 3D objects on the screen quickly, at high resolution, and for large numbers of parts its more important. It doesn't help rendering from Photoworks or Photoview. It's just speed of display.
I usually get something middle of the road because I don't think high end gets you much.
Most comparative analysis shows no statistical advantage to top end cards for typical solidworks use.
IMHO it sounds like "it is more expensive so it must be better" sells quite a few 3xxx and 4xxx series video cards for nVidia.
