Hi Everyone,
I received an inquiry about user groups in the Fresno, CA area yesterday and was sorry to have to report that we do not have one. As is my nature, I asked this person if they would like to start one, but the reply was "I don't think I'm qualified" (I get that a lot ).
So...is there anyone out there in the area that might like to take a shot at getting a group started? We have lots of help in the region - local resellers and Phil Sluder of course, and there are plenty of SolidWorks users in that area.
Respond here if you are interested, or send me a direct email and I will help move things along.
Richard

You are really funny!!
What if the members may want bi-monthly meetings Anne? Are you up for six times per year?
I thought about helping you out also Richard. All you have to do is find me a job in the area for twice my current salary and move my family out there. Simple!
:-)
Richard,
I may be interested... I am about 2 -3 hours from fresno... and would love the chance to engage a little more in the local SW comunity. Can you getme some more details.
Cheers,
AL
Albert,
We have a group in Bakersfield run by Wes Mosier and Anthony Ibarra. I would have to do some homework to find out when they are holding their next meeting. Maybe one of them will chime in.
As far as Fresno goes, David Thalman from M Squared Antenna Systems is interested in helping get a group going, so maybe you two could acomplish it together. From what I understand David was going to attend the LA SWUG meeting on November 10th to check out their setup.
Let's keep in touch,
Thanks,

Hey Phil,
I'm heading out to LA SWUG in a few, looking forward to it. I was looking thru a bunch of old posts here and I was wondering what is considered a adequate UG number? Since there is no SWUG in Central California what kind of turn out would you expect from your experience? Do you know of any interest besides mine to have a SWUG, another words do you think there is interest to keep a SWUG going? I'm aware that a leader can also make or break the SWUG and or the content. I was looking at some places to hold the SWUG and that is why I'm asking these questions.
David,
Steve Brown at the LASWUG meeting tonight should be a big help answering questions. It is hard for me to predict a number of attendees for any given area. After you have held a few meetings, you will probably see 20-30 attendees (just a guess). Digital Dimensions (the reseller in the area) is enthusiastic about supporting a group via sending out email notifications to all their customers and helping with presentations. In the first couple of meetings you will see the interest and hopefully find some others interested in helping run the meetings (food, venue, presentations). When you return we can schedule a conference call with DDi and discuss the details such as emailing, presentations, and possible meeting locations.
Thanks again for your interest,

Phil,
I made it back from LA SWUG it was great! I'm ready to get started! Are you going to available to come to Fresno real soon. I hear you have a great tricks and tips presentation ( hint, hint ). I really want to get this Fresno SWUG going what's next.
Hi David,
I'm a native California (Bay Area) New England transplant and I make it back to CA as much as my check book can accomodate. Please keep me posted; I would love to visit and present at your group some time in the future. Besides, I have some favorite customers in the area (Theile) and a really good friend that lives in Clovis.
Regards
Mark
Hey Mark,
I would be interested in presenters for our new SWUG. I will definitely keep you updated. Wow that sounds like a huge climate change. I actualy live in Clovis, I just work in Fresno.
David
Mark,
I didn't get an opportunity to meet you at SWW
I would like to see if you are ready for some warm weather? I'm hopeful that it will fit into your schedule. We have bimonthly meetings on the first Thursday of the month starting in January.
here is my contact info

Thanks,

Hi David,
I will keep this in mind and take a look at my schedule. Something should be doable in the 2010 timeframe. My email address is mark.biasotti@3ds.com
Best Regards
Mark
David,
I am not sure how much you have looked over the SWUGN.org website, but that is the first place you should visit and look at the User Group Support page. Starting with the “Getting Started” link, check out all of the information that is posted there, especially the “Starter Kit”. That should answer most of your questions.
After that you will need to register the group. After you register you’ll have access to the User Group Leader Discussion Forum:
http://www.swugn.org/pages/resources/ChangeRequestForm.html
And the second puts your specific meeting on the calendar (needs to be completed for each meeting):
http://www.swugn.org/pages/calendar/UGRequestForm.html
Also at some point you and I can call Cody Armstrong from Digital Dimensions, Inc. He is the reseller in the area and will be able to pass the meeting information on to his customers, and will be a good resource for technical presentations.

Phil,
I wanted to get back with you on the conversation we had last week in regards to you being my guest speaker. Yeah! I wanted to confirm the date with you before I put it on the SWUGN calender. I'm going to have our meeting at Fresno City College on Jan. 7th, 2010 on a Thursday night. The time would be 5:30 to 8:30 ish.
I hope this will be a good time for you to travel to Fresno.
David T.
We had our first meeting and it went well. Fresno now has a SWUG (good thing Richard asked if would want to start it ) it was a little tough getting the word out, but it seamed to work. Phil thanks for the presentation everyone liked it.
I also appreciate the advice I got from other UG leaders.
Thanks
David
