Flat sheet bent into Cylindrical profile

You could do this with a sketched bend (see attached), but I think the way you modeled the sample you posted is just fine.

Your original approach of drawing the drum, unfolding, adding holes, and then folding (a step you skipped as noted by Seon) allows good control over the modeled size of the part.

Drawing a flat sheet and then adding a bend to it does indeed more closely match the way the part will be manufactured, but it is a bit of a nuisance to control the bend angle (I cheated - 360° doesn't work unless the flat length and inside bend radius perfectly match and I wasn't willing to put that much work into this demo).
