Does SW2010 need a new license file for a network usage?
Could not obtain that from the customer portal. Any idea when these are available?
Anybody already running SW2010 with a network license?
There could be several reasons for this.
1. Your serial number is not current (doubt this since you could update/download 2010)
2. Solidworks has not ported your serial number to 2010 activation based
3. You have the following scenario shown from Solution ID S-042276
This could occur if the network contains two or more network installation lines, for example, a SolidWorks® network installation line and a Workgroup PDM Contributor network installation line. Currently the Activation Manager cannot recognize all the assets and results in the error "Serial number not valid". This is a known issue and is currently being worked on.
Until the problem is fixed, customers with these networks have to be provided with an ANY file as a workaround to run the 2010 version. If this is required, please submit an SR for the Customer Center
You would want to contact your VAR to resolve this issue.
Well, after exchanging some thoughts with our VAR and having some tests with SW NetWork License Administrator 2010 have found that this has changed quite a lot since 2009.
No license file or dongles are needed any more. There is a license activation through net/email instead.
For some reason could not get it work but we are working on it with our VAR.
PS. Does anybody know if virtual servers for License Administrator are possible now? According to system requirements not but I guess it should be possible now ....
There is no change in the way clients obtain licenses from the server. It's only the license server application that is activated, not the clients.
The FAQ at http://www.solidworks.com/sw/support/1092_ENU_HTML.htm should answer your questions.
See if this video helps you out any.
Thank you for sharing good tips and clear presentation from Matthew. This has been very interesting.
I have installed NetWork License Administrator 2010 to our virtual license server but when trying to activate, I get following:
So it seems that I have made a mistake while feeding in our code, our code is not valid, a bug in the program or human error somewhere.
This is not that critical now with another (old) server running for SW2009. But if it were not - none of us could do now anything with SW. This will be the case if we update to 2010. After collecting those dongles we do not have that old server any more.
Thank you Chris for an explanation!
We really do have pdmworks contributor license with SW licenses. I guess this must be the reason for our activation problem.
10/28/2009: We got an any-file and have SW2010 available for next 13 days. It works just fine! Hope to have everything clear for activation in this time :-)
11/18/2009: License activation through web - done! Everything clear to go for SW2010!
