ive enabled the 3gb switch, but how can i check if it is working(or using it?)
ive done it so i have the option on boot up.
You can verify that the machine started with the proper parameter by going to the registry and looking at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control key. On the right you will find a value of SystemStartOptions. Look at the data in that value - mine says NOEXECUTE=OPTIN FASTDETECT SOS, but I'm on XP64 so I don't have the switch set.
That tells you the start parameters. To verify that it's actually doing you some good, turn it off, load SW and tell it to load a file that you know is too big to fully load. Back when I was exploring this, I used a test assy that had several car bodies in it. I knew that it would run out of memory and crash before fully loading, so I would watch the Commit Charge to see how much memory it got to before crashing. That would be somewhere around 1.9 or 2.1 Gb. Then I rebooted with the switch turned on and checked that point again. There should be a difference by about the amount of the user value you set.
