Sometimes solidworks starts two proceses of solidworks.exe and then don't start.
Check taskmanager and see if two proceses not running.
Only one process of Solidworks.exe tries to run and then fails. I tried to reinstall again.... Solidworks sp0 works fine, but as soon as I go to sp4.1 it installs fine but will not run. Only the splash screen shows for about 5 secs and then the application quits.
Get your VAR involved. They should be able to help.
You may have a bad SP4.1 download.
I agree - get your VAR involved. Everything here runs 4.1 just fine. We have a mix of XP32, XP64, Vista64.
I gave up on 4.0 and 4.1. I was upgrading from 3.0 which runs fine. I had the same thing happen as you and tried 2 or 3 times to make it work. The quickest fix was doing a system restore. My concern now is what is going to happen when 2010 is released - will it be the same problem?
I had the same problem with 4.1. I had to reinstall SW and when I got to the update to 4.1, I would install and then try to run the program. The start screen would come up and then SW would crash. Contacted VAR, we tried a few things with no luck (VAR said it was a bad down load). Now I am at SP 0 waiting for 2010.
I download the files twice with the same results. There have been a few other post on the forum related to this same problem - bad download sounds like a bad answer to me. Have not tried getting a copy from my VAR yet however ... but then again, at this point, 3.0 works fine.
Ask your VAR for a media pack. We haven't had any luck downloading anything. I started asking for the media packs when a service pack is released. Hope this helps.
I have seen this problem once before. After a little fiddling I managed to get it to work by reinstalling .NET framework 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5 plus all relative hot fixes from Microsoft. And then running windows update afterwards. It is very important to make sure the prerequistes Soldiworks needs are installed correctly. Like I said, I have only seen this once before, and this method seemed to work. I have seen a few other problems of the prerequistes not downloading properly from Soldiworks....This seems to have been cleared up in 2010, with the ability to download the full media (as on the shipped DVD's) instead of Solidworks IM detecting what is already installed and only downloading the required items.
All .NET files should be available from microsoft.com
Happened to me after downloading and installing 4.1. Launch Solidworks 2009 SP 4.1 and it crashed after the splash screen.
Tried a whole bunch of stuff before uninstalling. I downloaded and installed 3.0 with no problems. Launched and got it registered. Hopefully that is a known bug and being fixed for any future service packs. The installaion manager has always been a little goofy and has mind of its own.
