Does anybody know of a tool or an option that will automatically detect/compare/show the changes in different configurations of a part?
Tools - Add-Ins - SolidWorks Utilities
I think you'll need to do a save as of your original to compare the different configs.
Well, I did not have the design table created when creating parts, plus some of these parts were designed by somebody else...
I tried the comparison, with a previous generatiopn..(suggested above), but did not find anyway to get it to compare the hole placements, anybody in the mood for detailed instructions?
I think a design table will answer your question. Insert->Tables->Design Table and it should automatically populate based upon the configurations. Then all you have to do examine the design table that are describing the dimensions for the hole placements. Hope this helps
Thanks for the quick response. I followed the advise and from the options, it seems that it will work, however, i dont know how to review it or make it appear. Does it appear only in drawings? or i shpould be able to see it when the part is open?
Once you have auto-created the design table, close it by clicking in the graphics area. Then for good measure save the file. Now do a RMB on the table at the top of the tree in the configs pane and select Edit Table in New Window. This lets you work with it in Excel. When done there, close it. You can do that any time you want.
in addition to design tables, you can select all the features in the feature tree, then right click, and choose "configure features". This will create a table with all the features and their dimensions.
Also, for a more in-depth table that includes all dimensions in a part, try the macro in this thread, it is great:
