Hi Guys,
I'm new here and a fairly new user of SW. I'm an industrial designer. I've been using a Dell M70 and it's been working out fine so far.
I feel like I'm walking into the lion's den to ask this here. I also use a Mac for all other work outside the CAD work. I am looking into a new Intel Mac and thought a MacBook Pro would be a great upgrade. I am a consultant and it would be great to carry one machine when I work remotely.
I have been doing a lot of asking around to see how it would handle SW. I know from past discussions SW will run well on the last gen Macbook Pro and Mac Pro's. I'm curious if there are any issues with the newest Macs.
I had one conversation with a user in Europe and he is using the newest Macbook Pro with SW, running in Vista and 64 bit via Bootcamp. He says it works, but he has one issue with it that he feels is disappointing. But not a show stopper. His experience is that the image quality is low and curves look faceted. He sent me screen grabs so I could see what the issue was. On his PC, he's got the Image Quality setting dialed down and curves look smooth. Using the same Image Quality settings on the Mac, the image looks faceted. So he has to crank the Image Quality slider all the way into the red zone. I understand that this is an odd situation. A friend who knows SoildWorks has said that SW controls the resolution via the Image Quality slider, not the video card. So it should look identical on the PC and Mac. The video card has no affect here. The Apple selected video cards for the laptop Mac's will not run Real View, I understand that.
Has anyone else experienced this? I'd really like to get more feedback. Perhaps there is a setting that is wrong or a video card driver issue. The video card in these new Macbook Pros also has two speeds, so maybe it's set in the lower mode. Worse comes to worse, I carry two laptops.
The user in Europe has agreed to let me show his screen grabs. Here's what he sees:

Any insights appreciated. All I want to do is run SolidWorks on the Mac, Photoview 360 too. And I hope it will run as well as on my Dell M70 or faster.
Thanks guys! Nelson
