Hi All

I have a simple structure made of I-Beams. At the bottom I have a couple of beams that sit on the ground. I want to define a fixture on the bottom face of beam flanges, however SW doesn't allow you to select beam faces to define a fixture. I'm wondering what the best way is to define a constraint for a fully supported beam.

Thanks,

Reza

You can make the flange and web different thicknesses. In my quick example, I just simplified it by making them equal. True, you don't have all the detail that you need with shells, but it depends on what your objective of the study is.

That is always the first question to ask yourself, "What is the objective of this study? Or what am I trying to learn from this analysis?" Then every decision about the modeling is based on the answer to this question.

Out of curiosity on your model, can you make use of symmetry, because you may still be able to do the problem as a solid (i.e. fit it into available memory) if you can cut it down by making use of symmetric geometry, restraints, loading and material properties.
