Look at the screenshot of the Admin Tool, the highlighted area shows how to have extra copies in the Vault.
Also, you can schedule daily Vault back-up using scripts to stop the Workgroup Service, copy the Vault, then restart the PDM Service.

I'm having the same problem.
I reinstalled PDMWorks and get this message. There is an old knowledgebase article on this topic.
S-06110, But it uses the word "likely" quite a bit and anyway doesn't cover my situation because nothing has been archived and the files are physically in the vault; I checked the vault folder.
I created a junk file and checked it in. I cannot check it out again because of this error.
Obviously backing up will not solve this problem.
SW2009 SP3.0
First determine if the file is still present on the actual vault (external from the vaulting system). On the server locate the VaultData folder and open Projects. Locate the folder for the project in which the file exists and open it. Then look for a folder that matches the name of the document in the vault. If there is a folder then open it an locate the most recently modified/created folder (the folders should be named similar to your revision scheme). In the folder you should see a file name "_SLDPRT" (if a part), "_SLDASM" (if assembly) or "_SLDDRW" (if drawing). If the file exists, this is a GOOD sign.
Copy (not move) the file to an external location and rename it to the original file name with the correct extension. Attempt to open the file. If the file opens then the file is NOT corrupt and you can attempt to repair the vaulting system (and associated tree views).
Please note that the errors can also be caused by a mismatch in client/server versions. You can check to see that you are running the same client/server versions from Help > About PDMWorks.
God Bless,
Chris
Thanks, but I got it going by reinstalling the server to match the service pack of SW that I was using.
The error is a WINSOCK2 error documented in the MicroSoft website. PDMW is not the only thing that has had this particular problem.
I did shut down the server and look for the files as you explained. It was one of the first things I did.
