When first launch SolidWorks and create a new document you are prompted with a small dialog box entitled "Units & Dimension Standard" that allows you to pick a units and drafting standard. This selection seems to determine the settings for default templates that are created in the "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SolidWorks\SolidWorks 2009\templates" folder. Now that I have installed the 2010 Beta I am not prompted for this and 2010 points to the 2009 folder. The 2010 folder does not contain its own default templates, though I assume I could simply copy the 2009 ones over. It seems that both installations share some registry keys and this is a long known annoyance, but that is for another discussion.
Questions:
1. Other than uninstalling/reinstalling is there a way to get SolidWorks to create these default templates?
2. Does anything get changed in the default templates from release to release? I have noticed previously that lighting settings have been different.
3. Has anyone seen issues from save your "old" templates to new versions? Or is it better practice to use the defaults and tweak them to your liking with each release?
Thanks,
Jeff
