Hi,
What would you recomend as the best books available to use as reference manuals.
We manufacture structural steel work, so i would be looking for books on Sheet metal / Weldments, plus a few good general refrence books.
Also i would prefer the examples in the books to be in metric.
thanks
Mark
Tony,
When i say reference books i mean something like the 'SolidWorks Bible 2009'.
The links you gave are for steel suppliers.
I am looking for a book(s) we can go to to find out how to do stuff in SolidWorks.
We already have some books from the training sessions, but would like to purchase others ,particular in Sheet metal / Weldments.
Sorry for the confusion
Mark

Hi Nicole,
Thanks for the tip,
At the moment there is only me who can really use the software and I'm no expert.
We sent another couple of lads on the introduction course and have realized that the training classes have been geared towards the mechanical engineering where as we want learn about the structural engineering.
I have spoke to our VAR about setting up specific 'in house' training using examples of what we do daily. Meeting with them in next few weeks.
I was just after a couple of good tutorial / reference books to go to when we get stuck.
thanks
Mark
Nicole,
Have they improved the Solidworks help system recently? I pretty much stopped using it, since in doing a search the resulting list would be so long and very few of the results seemed to relate to what I was searching for that it was faster either coming here, to these forums, and doing a search or referencing one of the books that I have. I like the training manuals from the VAR sponsored classes. We have the Sheetmetal & Weldments book and it has helped somewhat. Matt's Soldworks Bible is very good but it is almost too detailed to help with some of the more "beginning" questions.
I have a couple Solidworks Tutorial Books/Manuals by the Planchards that I like pretty well too and seem to be aimed more at the beginner.

Mark,
Great question! Of course I'm gonna say the SolidWorks 2009 Bible is the one to get, but I'm a little biased. It has 2 chapters on sheet metal specifically, one for base flange method and one for insert bends method. It also has a chapter on weldments functionality. It's not set up as a tutorial, but rather as a reference book, as you are asking. You can check it out here: http://www.dezignstuff.com/blog/?page_id=1739
The Sheet Metal Guy books are devoted to sheet metal topic. I don't know much about them, not having seen them myself, but I would guess an expert on the topic has something valuable to say. His blog hasn't been updated in over a year, but here is a link: http://www.sheetmetalguy.com/blog/
Hi Matt,
Thanks for the info, looks like The 2009 Bible is the one to go for, Tony mentioned in his post that he had all 3 books by you, what would the other 2 titles be.
Also would there be a 2010 bible and if so when would you expext to release it.
Thanks again for all the info.
