Solidworks 2009 into Solidworks 2008

I am a student on Electrical Engineering in Portugal and I need to study the vibrations and modal analysis on electrical machines using Solidworks 2008 Student (licenses available on my university).

For that purpose I bought the book Engineering Analysis with SolidWorks Simulation 2009 ( https://www.solidworks.com/sw/products/details.htm?productid=632 ) and downloaded the files with examples that supports that book.

However I am not able to open the examples for that book … it seems that there are some incompatibilities as I get the following error messages when trying to open the assembly files:

“Cannot Open Path\Filename.SLDASM. Future version”.

The same message appears when trying to open the part files ( *.SLDPRT).

I kindly ask if you can help me… you may know the cause or the solution (any conversion tool, any trick or perhaps you have a wise suggestion).

I very much appreciate your help.

Also, tried to used some intermediate file formats for conversion (*.SAT and *.STEP)... it worked on loading the files but missed all the information about the assemly (all the parts get disconneted!)

Does anyone know what is happening or any possible solution??

Jose
