When I sketch out an arc and a line to form a half-circle, I can revolve it as a solid to get a sphere but not as a surface.

Now, I can split line project a small circle on the sphere, delete the face and untrim to get my surface sphere. But I'm curious as to the technical reasons why you can't use revolve to make a sphere as a surface.
